The Union Ministry of Electronics and IT launched first NIC-CERT,a setup of National Informatics Center (NIC) to prevent cyber attacks on govt networks.

‘All communications between govt departments- centre,state and district, as well as interactions between the government the citizens take place through NIC’s network.’ said Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Sankar Prasad.

He also said that he has called a meeting of all state,IT Ministers in January which will mainly focus on issue of cyber security and safety. During the inauguration, Hon’ble Minister said that as part of its digital India initiatives the government has introduced a lot of its service online. Although this has made services very accessible to the citizens it has also exposed them to the threats and vulnerabilities which are an inherent part of cyberspace.

NIC’s PAN-INDIA connectivity and research is one of its key strengths this coupled with its enhanced ability to detect and prevent attacks would collectively upscale the government ability to protect its data.



The NIC-CERT will monitor and help in early detection and mitigation of cyberattacks on government networks. It has been set up with objective of creating comprehensive framework for detection, prevention and incident response. By using advanced tools,NIC-CERT team will check that would help in generating canvas of attack surface.
